I am a recent BSc Crop Science graduate with a strong passion for practical agriculture and a drive to grow within the commercial farming and research sector. I recently completed one year of handson experience working on a commercial fruit farm that specializes in the production of apples and peaches for export markets. That year gave me more than just a job. It gave me a complete view of how commercial fruit production works from the ground up. I was involved in orchard establishment, irrigation scheduling, pest and disease scouting, nutrition programs, pruning, thinning, harvesting, and post-harvest handling to meet strict export quality standards. Working with apples and peaches taught me the importance of attention to detail, record keeping, and timing in agriculture. I learned that small decisions in the orchard can have a big impact on yield, fruit quality, and ultimately whether a crop makes it to the export market. Coming from a Crop Science background, I understand both the theory and the practice. During my degree I built a strong foundation in plant physiology, soil science, agronomy, crop protection, and agricultural economics. On the farm I learned how to apply that knowledge in real conditions, how to work as part of a team, how to solve problems quickly, and how to adapt when weather, pests, or market demands change. I am comfortable collecting field data, monitoring crop growth stages, and following standard operating procedures to ensure consistency.
