How to read the LMIA heatmap

This heatmap visualizes the distribution of Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) data across different occupations and program streams. Darker colors indicate higher volumes of the selected metric (e.g., more approved positions). Use the filters above to drill down by year, quarter, or specific occupation to identify trends in the Canadian labor market.

Understanding the metrics

Approved Positions

The number of foreign worker positions approved on positive LMIAs. This reflects the actual labor demand filled by TFWs.

Approved LMIAs

The count of positive LMIA applications issued to employers. One application can cover multiple positions.

Refused Positions

The number of positions requested by employers but refused by ESDC due to program non-compliance or labor market factors.

Refused LMIAs

The count of LMIA applications that received a negative decision from Service Canada.
